POSITION: BIOMEDICAL TECHNICIAN – TEMPORARY PART TIME-CURRENT TO SEPT 2010
APPROX 37.5 HOURS BI-WEEKLY

LOCATION: EDMONTON, ALBERTA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Biomedical Services Team Lead, Alberta Region, the Biomedical Technician is responsible for providing support services for all installations, validation, calibrations, inspection/preventative maintenance, performance assurance and repairs on an ongoing basis of all site biomedical equipment involved in the collection, manufacturing, processing, storage and delivery of blood and blood components, in accordance with the applicable regulatory standards.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensures that all new electrical, electro-mechanical and electronic components and assemblies are inspected, tested, adjusted, evaluated and installed in conformance with product specifications and all Canadian Blood Services and regulatory requirements
  • Maintains all electrical and electronic equipment and systems
  • Ensures that all electrical and electronic equipment and instruments are calibrated in accordance with all technical manuals, calibration schedules and CBS and regulatory requirements
  • Executes validation protocols
  • Monitors all equipment and documentation to ensure adherence to standards and regulations
  • Maintains a current equipment and instrument inventory
  • Maintains equipment maintenance records and logbooks
  • Performs unscheduled maintenance and repairs
  • Performs other related duties as required
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Diploma in Biomedical or Electronic Technology or nearing completion of said program
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Knowledge of electrical safety codes
  • WHMIS training in laboratory safety
  • Excellent computer skills are essential with proficiency in database applications
  • Ability to work effectively in an integrated multidisciplinary project team environment
  • Ability to identify problems recognizes symptoms/causes, diagnose root causes and generate alternative solutions
  • Membership in the professional association of Technology an asset
  • Knowledge of GMP and ISO 9000 an asset
